Pneumatic Compression

Pneumatic compression devices consist of an inflatable garment for the arm, leg, trunk, or chest and an electrical pneumatic pump that fills the garment with compressed air.  The garment is intermittently inflated and deflated with cycle times and pressures that vary between devices.

A pneumatic compression helps prevent the formation of edema and reduces swelling by exerting external pressure on the injury. The pressure inhibits the loss of fluid from vessels in the damaged tissues and makes it more difficult for them to accumulate. Pneumatic compression aids in surgical procedure recovery and helps prevent blood clots in the deep veins.
